Recalling
Your Dreams
Remembering your dreams will require some effort on your
part. But what your dreams can offer and tell you about yourself
will be well worth it. Here are some tips in helping your
dream recall:
1. Before going to bed, keep a clear mind. Tell yourself
that "I will remember my dream when I wake up".
This is actually a proven and effective way to help dream
recall. Having too many thoughts on your mind can distract
you from remembering your dream in the morning.
2. Have a regular bedtime and wake up time. Make this your
routine. Going to bed and waking up at a regular time every
day aids in dream recollection.
3. Avoid alcohol consumption and taking medication before
going to bed. These things may hinder you from remembering
your dream.
4. Keep a pencil/notebook or tape recorder next to your bed
so that it will be within reach as soon as you wake up. You
want to make recording your dreams as easy a task as possible.
Having a small lamp by your bedside is also a good idea should
you wake up in the middle of the night and want to record
your dream immediately.
5. Upon waking from a dream, lie in bed for awhile keeping
your eyes closed. Wake up slowly and stay relaxed. Hold on
to the feelings you have and let your mind wander to the images
of what you have just dreamt. Were you frustrated, terrified,
or happy?
6. Record your dream immediately. Make it a habit that this
is the first thing you do. Talking about your dreams to friends
or participating in forums and chats also help you remember.
When recaling dreams and writing them down , use the words
that come into your mind when remebering the things or events
within your dreams , many times the general wording and or
language/slang terms and such can be time and or location
stamps that can be very helpfull in understanding the gist
of the dream. I once had a 3-D full sensation dream in where
a womyn dressed in old world clothes , poped up out of the
sewer looking pristine clean and definetly upper class , she
poped up , rasied her arms in a dramatic fasion and in crystal
clear Italian Opera belted out the word Ravenia , before vaporising
intot he nothingness. The next morning I did a search on ravenia
and found it to be a real place with an amazeing history.
So if you get an impression such as mine with "itlaian
opera" do'nt just pass it off as silliness , more often
than not I've searched veriouse things like this from my dreams
and turned up amazing results.
It is peculiar, but we can still vividly recall dreams we
had many many years ago, and our dream recall is usually very
high, I remember vast and intricate detail, but other times,
I will not remember dreams one bit, but I will know I did
have a dream. I suffer from insomnia, and sometimes in the
morning I am not sure if I got any sleep, but if I suddenly
remember something weird, I would know I had to have fallen
asleep, because the weird thing would have been a dream. One
of my suggestions to help you to remember dreams is read other
people's dream journals, and any other books you can find
about dreams, and if you don't remember you own dreams, make
them up and write something that would be like a dream if
you did dream it. Don't post those in this on-line dream journal
('cause that's cheating), but the excersice alone might help
condition your brain for remembering dreams. Also, one method
that worked really well for me is during the day keep saying
to yourself "I'm I dreaming", or "This is a
dream." Also, if it doesn't upset your family, or they
won't make fun of you for doing it, post little notes around
the house where you will see them (on the refridgerator, the
microwave door, your bed post. etc.) that says on it "remember
your dreams."
